Announcing: "Charlotte & Théo's Butterfly Run" / <<La course papillon de Théo et Charlotte>>

3/25/2018

Picture
As you you know, the 2nd annual Butterfly Run Ottawa/Gatineau is scheduled for Saturday October 13, 2018. In keeping with last year's tradition, we've chosen to honour new families for this year's Run. As you most likely remember, last year's Run was Aaron's Butterfly Run, in honour of Rachel and Rob Samulack's son Aaron who passed away 100 minutes after birth. This year, we will be honouring babies Charlotte and Théo, along with their families, and of course, all other butterfly babies who were lost too soon. So please join us on Saturday October 13, 2018, for Charlotte and Théo's Butterfly Run / La course Papillon de Théo et Charlotte.

Charlotte's mother Anne-Marie Warren and Théo's mother Claire Pagé will be the Co-Chairs on our Executive Committee for the 2018 Run. Both Anne-Marie and Claire have chosen to share their stories about their beautiful babies gone too soon, in hopes of raising awareness around perinatal loss and supporting other families in our community.

Anne-Marie recently suffered the loss of her sweet daughter Charlotte Anne. Anne-Marie, her husband Tom and Baby Charlotte went from CHEO's NICU department to Roger Neilson House; thinking they would only be there for a couple of hours, they were blessed to live there for 38 days. Anne-Marie hopes to keep Charlotte's memory alive by supporting others who have suffered pregnancy and/or infant loss and by giving back to Roger Neilson House for their continued love and support.
Claire’s beautiful baby boy Théo was born with a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH).  Sadly, he passed shortly after his birth, due to complications related to CDH. Since then, Roger Neilson House has been a huge support to Claire and her husband François, through their Perinatal Loss Bereavement Support Group. Claire hopes to honour her son’s life by raising awareness about pregnancy and infant loss, as well as giving back to Roger Neilson House.

announcing the Butterfly Box!

9/12/2017

We are honoured to announce today that we have partnered with Mom Friends to bring Butterfly Boxes to Ottawa and Gatineau!

Thanks to a generous grant from JustChange Ottawa, Mom Friends will be bringing Butterfly Boxes to our area for bereaved families.  And we've teamed up with Mom Friends to make this happen!
Picture
The Butterfly Boxes of Ottawa/Gatineau will:
  • Be the first-of-their-kind in our region
  • Grow awareness and bust the stigma surrounding pregnancy and infant loss in our community through a card-writing and storytelling project
  • Contain thoughtful items and local non faith-based resources to support grieving families, free of cost

Our goals are to:
  1. Ensure bereaved families in our community feel that they are acknowledged and supported
  2. Grow awareness and address stigma around PAIL through public engagement in card-writing and storytelling projects

But we still need your help!
We would love the help of community to spread the word about these boxes so that families who are experiencing a loss will be able to access them. Thanks for telling others!

We are also looking for help from some key stakeholders to see this project through:
  • Are you a member of the birthing community who could help distribute the Butterfly Boxes to families experiencing loss?
  • Have you experienced a loss and could recommend a non faith-based book for our reading list?
  • Do you have a community space where we could grow awareness and bust stigma around PAIL with our storytelling postcard display next fall?

Please e-mail Mom Friends and let them know how you can help!

Stay Tuned!
In addition to day-to-day operations, Mom Friends is working hard to launch the Butterfly Box Ottawa/Gatineau sometime this fall. We’ll keep you posted on a formal launch date, and provide more details about the Boxes as they come together.

Thank you!
Thank you SO much to our partners at Mom Friends and JustChange for making this happen!

And lets celebrate!
Please join us for #JustDrinks on September 19th at the Heart & Crown in the Byward Market from 7-9 PM to celebrate this $1,000 grant! Here is a link to the Facebook event.

Announcement: photographers for Aaron's butterfly Run

5/20/2017

We are so happy to announce the photographers for Aaron’s Butterfly Run Ottawa/Gatineau: Kim Brookes from Breathe In Photography and Annie Carrier photographe lifestyle et artiste émotionelle!

Kim from Breathe In Photography specializes in celebrating connections through birth, feeding, babywearing and in-home newborn photography.  She talks about her work:
“One day when your child asks you about the day he was born, or a sibling asks about the day her sister or brother joined your family, when you are taking a few moments to remember, or someone asks you about those early family years, you will have the photos to tell the stories over and over again.” (Kim Brookes from Breathe In Photography)
Kim’s style honours real life so that you can remain true to the moment so she can capture the beautiful connections between you and the people you love. Every birth story, the fuzzy chaos of the early days with a newborn, the mess in the kitchen and the mismatched booties on your baby's feet is the setting for beautiful moments. She believes photography celebrates connections, builds community and sparks important conversations. She hopes her images will provide you with beautiful tangible moments that you can look back on for years and years.

Annie Carrier photographe’s mission is to become your creative partner to ensure that you get images that reflects the beauty and rawness that makes you the beautiful and unique beings that you are.  She tells us about her approach to photography:

"My lifestyle approach to photography allows me to offer you images that are filled with life and sensibility, filled to the brim with emotions and present.  This medium allows me to meet incredible people who are not only looking for images, but to capture the every day magic, the little moments of joys where tears and laughter often intertwine.  They want to freeze in time the perfect imperfections of everyday life to remember the moments exactly as they where. My clients are genuine and authentic, they celebrate a life well lived and lived fully, and are not afraid of letting their personality shine to ensure that their session will undoubtedly reflect the essence of who they are, whether we do it locally or abroad." (Annie Carrier)
Annie is also a volunteer photographer for Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. She photographed the family of one of our volunteers after her daughter Anya passed away at birth in 2013. Anya’s mother, writes:
"On December 19, in the hours of shock, confusion and pain that followed Anya's death, a nurse at the hospital suggested she get in touch with a volunteer photographer who could take pictures to commemorate our family's one and only day together. An hour or two later, we welcomed a wonderfully compassionate and attentive photographer (Annie) into our little cocoon. We now have a few more mementos to add to our small pile. We are ever so grateful!" (Kayleigh Felice)

Kim and Annie have both volunteered their services for the day of the run. Hopefully you will have the opportunity to get to know these amazing, generous women! They have also donated photography packages to our Silent Auction, scheduled for June 2-3, 2017 (join the group here).

Thank you SO MUCH Kim and Annie!!!
